Self Storage FAQ — Coolum Beach
What are your access hours?
You can access your storage container 7 days a week between 6am and 6pm. Our gates power down after hours so vehicles cannot access or leave the site after 6pm. Please make sure you have vacated the facility before closing time. For access after the gates have closed, this is possible if a caretaker is on site — an admin fee will be charged.
What if I can't get there during normal opening hours?
Give Nigel a call on 0434 581 550 and we'll do our best to make alternative arrangements. We might be out for a walk or off-site, so don't rely on this without arranging prior. We live on site and we're flexible — we understand that life doesn't always run to schedule. If this is a regular thing, additional charges will apply.
How much does storage cost?
Pricing depends on the size of the unit or bay you need. Contact Nigel directly on 0434 581 550 and he will share current pricing with you. Please note that we do not provide pricing without a phone number. We keep our pricing simple, transparent and competitive.
Are there any costs apart from the rental?
No hidden fees. You pay your monthly rental and that's it. You will need to provide your own lock — we recommend using two locks on your container for extra security. We do not charge move-in fees, move-out fees, cleaning fees, or similar costs. If you pay your invoice on time, no late payment fees will apply. Your deposit is returned as soon as you exit.
How long is the contract?
We offer flexible agreements with a normal minimum of 8 weeks. If you need storage for less than that, we may have flexibility at certain times of the year. You are welcome to stay as long as you need.
How do I end my storage contract?
Simply give us notice that you're vacating — we ask for a minimum of 14 days written notice. Make sure your unit is completely empty and free of rubbish before your final day and return any keys to Nigel. We clean all containers out fully and thoroughly at the end of each rental.
What happens on my move-in day?
Nigel will meet you at the facility, show you to your unit or bay, demonstrate how to use the lock, highlight the cameras and security lighting, walk you through gate access and make sure you're comfortable. It's a relaxed, personal process — no paperwork queues or call centres.
Can I book storage in advance?
We don't hold containers for extended periods, but we do have a waiting list. If a unit becomes available near your required date, you'll have first option on it — we'll send you an SMS or call. Call Nigel on 0434 581 550 to get on the list.
Why do I need a second lock on my container?
Our shipping containers have two locking points on the door. We provide a lockbox for one point — but for maximum security we strongly recommend you add your own padlock to the second point. Two locks means double the protection, and confidence that only you have access to your container.
Do you sell packing materials?
We don't currently sell packing materials on site. We recommend picking up boxes, bubble wrap and tape from Bunnings, Officeworks or a local moving company before your move-in day. We do often have locks available for our storers — priced at $20 each.
What size storage units do you have?
Our storage units are all 20ft shipping containers — about the size of a single car garage. When fully loaded they hold between 33–37cbm, which is roughly the contents of a moderately furnished 3 bedroom unit. Nigel has 20+ years of removals experience — give him a call and he can advise whether you need one or two units.
How secure is the facility?
Very secure. We have keypad gate entry, AI security cameras, invisible line barrier detection, flood lighting and video alerts sent directly to Nigel's phone if anything is detected after hours. And best of all — we live on site. There's always someone here who cares about your belongings.
What's the difference between container storage and a vehicle bay?
Container storage is a fully enclosed 20ft shipping container — lockable, weatherproof and secure, ideal for household goods, business stock or anything you want fully protected. A vehicle bay is an outdoor concrete parking space with a dedicated bay allocation — designed for caravans, boats, trailers, jet skis and cars. Both have the same 24/7 security and keypad access.
Can I store a caravan or motorhome?
Yes — we have dedicated outdoor concrete bays for caravans and motorhomes up to 7.5 metres long and 3 metres wide. Drive-up access makes it easy to drop off and pick up. Call Nigel on 0434 581 550 to check current availability.
Can I store a boat or jet ski?
Yes — boats and jet skis on trailers are welcome. Our bays accommodate vessels up to 7.5 metres. It's a great alternative to expensive marina storage, with easy access 7 days a week.
Can I store a car or trailer?
Yes — cars, utes, work trailers, box trailers and small earthmoving equipment are all welcome. Our concrete bays are 3 metres wide and up to 7.5 metres long. Great for tradies who need to keep a work trailer secure overnight or longer term.
Is my stuff insured while in storage?
Our facility has comprehensive security but we do not provide insurance for your stored goods as part of the rental. We strongly recommend taking out a storage contents insurance policy before moving in. Your home and contents insurer may be able to extend your existing policy to cover items in storage — it's worth calling them to check.
If you'd like to arrange additional insurance, our storage yard is approved through a third party insurance provider approved by the Self Storage Industry Association (SSIA). Just ask Nigel and he'll provide the contact details for you. Call 0434 581 550.
What can't I store?
For safety and legal reasons, you cannot store flammable or hazardous materials, chemicals, explosives, illegal items, perishable food, or living things. Full details are on our Facility Rules page. If you're unsure whether something is suitable, just call Nigel and ask.
How far is the facility from Coolum Beach town centre?
We're located at 32 Access Crescent, Coolum Beach — about 2km from the Coolum Beach main strip and just 1km from the Sunshine Motorway. We're easily accessible from Peregian Springs (8 mins), Mount Coolum (4 mins), Noosa (20 mins) and Maroochydore (15 mins).
Do you have storage for businesses?
Yes — we're popular with tradies, home-based businesses and online sellers. A 20ft container gives you a secure, drive-up accessible space for tools, stock, equipment or business records. No lock-in contracts means you can scale up or down as your business needs change.
Is there a waiting list?
At busy times we may have a waiting list for certain storage types. We'd always recommend calling early — Nigel can give you an honest picture of availability and timing. Call 0434 581 550 to find out what's available right now.
Who owns and runs the facility?
Self Storage Coolum is owned and operated by Nigel and Casey Crockett, who purchased the facility in September 2025. Nigel has over 25 years of experience in removals and storage across Asia and Australia. They live on site — so when you call, you're always speaking directly with the owners.

We're the closest self storage facility for residents of Coolum Beach, Peregian Springs, Mount Coolum, Yaroomba, Point Arkwright, Marcoola, Mudjimba, and surrounds. Customers also come from Noosa, Peregian Beach, Sunshine Beach and Maroochydore — we're centrally located with easy Sunshine Motorway access.
